Springs Preserve Wedding: Kyle and Andrew

I vividly remember meeting Kyle and Andrew for the first time. I was smitten by their love and respect for one another. They met at a climbing event in Nevada and bonded over their unique upbringings. Kyle was born in Germany, raised in Ohio, New York, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Texas, California, Kansas and Germany again. Andrew was born in Michigan, raised in Hong Kong! However, their hearts belong out west and proudly own their home here in Las Vegas. Their love for the outdoors lead them to Springs Preserve where they hosted their friends and family to a beautiful wedding day.

The DIY touches in this wedding deserve a round of applause! The mother of the bride and her best friend ran with whatever idea I threw at them. The execution was more than I ever imagined. They created succulents in copper tins, all the beautiful hanging signage, the photo booth backdrop, table numbers, stationery, escort card display, guest book table and much more. All the personal touches paired with our amazing vendor team was a dream come true.

The guests were thought of at every turn. They were greeted by a welcoming smile and handed a ceremony program complete with a to do list, including asking Uncle John to tell them about a hunting story beginning with “So there I was…” Their ceremony included readings from their family members and was officiated by a dear friend who shared wonderful stories of the two of them. Kyle and Andrew spent cocktail hour greeting all their guests and taking photos with almost everyone. Guests were gifted a copper keychain with their name stamped and were encouraged to pick a postcard from Kyle and Andrew’s travels to leave advice, encouragement and love for the couple. The night was magical and a ton of fun!

I leave you with some fun facts about Kyle and Andrew. Their first call was on a satellite phone. Their first text was a Star Trek reference. Taco Tuesdays, stir Fridays and dim sum Sundays are a thing. They wrote dozens of postcards to each other in their first year together. They’ll spend their honeymoon on a month-long climbing road trip in the Pacific Northwest! I’m so glad our working relationship turned into a lifelong friendship.

Showing Love for Father and Step Father

The brilliant television show Modern Family is a crowd favorite in our office, but not only is it funny and thoughtful, its so true! Today’s family is diverse, mixed and special. Every combination, every relative and every scenario is unique. This becomes relevant when we discuss the ceremony processional with our couples. Who will escort grandma? Who will accompany the mother of the groom? Who will be seated in the front row and next to who? Who will give away the bride? With today’s modern family combinations, the answers are endless and completely up to the couple. However, the most sensitive question we often get is how to incorporate and respect both the bride’s father and step father. In light of Father’s Day, here are a few ideas to be sure each man in your life gets the honor he deserves.

Who gives this bride away?

Most fathers dream about the day he gets to escort his beautiful daughter down the aisle. Some may argue its his birth right. We suggest asking yourself who has been your biggest supporter and fan prior to the man you’re about to marry? Is it your step father, but you cannot imagine taking away your father’s birth right? Share the responsibility. Perhaps your father begins the walk and your step father finishes, or your father escorts you down the aisle, but both your father and step father present you to your future husband. You may also consider having both your father and step father escort you down the aisle if the relationship is good.

I now present to you!

The grand entrance is a wonderful place to show appreciation and excitement for those in your life. Although its common to just introduce the wedding party, why not include all sets of parents.

May I have this dance?

If both your father and step father are present in your life, dance with both! Pick a different song for each that best represents your relationships. For instance you may select “I Loved Her First” by Heartland for your father and “Kind and Generous” by Natalie Merchant for your step father. Keep the dances short so it doesn’t drag on, but this is sure to honor both men equally.

Please raise your glass!

If you decide to give your father the honor of escorting you down the aisle, offer your step father a chance to say a few words at the reception, or rehearsal dinner. Better yet, offer him a chance to do a reading at the ceremony or present the rings.

Honorary Attendee

Sometimes a grandfather, uncle or brother play a significant role in your life. Make the time to personally thank them for their love and guidance. You may not need to do anything in particular on your wedding day, but if there is an opportunity to leave a note in their welcome bag or give thanks in your speech at the rehearsal dinner please do so. A family is a special commodity, share your love and appreciation the best way you know how.

We send lots of love and thanks to our fathers this Sunday! Happy Father’s Day!

Red Rock Country Club Wedding: Whitney & Josh

Planning a wedding at Red Rock Country Club with Whitney and Josh kept me laughing and smiling for 11 months as we pieced each part of their wedding together.  Whitney is out-going and says whats on her mind which meant I was always in for a good time!

On the wedding day, we incorporated a number of touches special to Whitney & Josh.  Josh is from the South and wanted sophisticated Southern influences.  We had a delicious menu created by Chef William at Red Rock Country Club consisting of brisket, chicken, pulled pork, corn bread, succotash, chicken and waffles, grits and so much more!  Whitney has a love for horses so her escort card board was a pair of custom made chalkboard horseshoes.  The colors of light peach, blush and ivory gave the day a contemporary style — we called it a Stylish Southern Soiree!  Before the ceremony, Whitney and Josh exchanged their vows in private.  They wanted their vows to be personal and made promises to each other they felt best shared with one another rather than trying to get through them at the altar without becoming overly emotional.  Christine Olson and NP Films did a great job capturing this moment of theirs (without seeing each other before the ceremony!).  We had planned for an outdoor ceremony but as the ceremony time drew closer, the clouds gathered and began a light sprinkle.  The sprinkle grew and turned to full on rain.  I can’t say enough about the amazing vendors we work with who stuck out the weather to do our best to have an outdoor ceremony like everyone wanted!  Luckily, the rain let up just minutes after we were to begin the ceremony.  Chairs were wiped down, guests ushered outside and the processional began!  Unfortunately, there was not enough time to get a full AV set up done in the rain, so the DJ told the officiant he’d have to speak loudly to be heard (because the microphone was no longer an option).  Pastor Kevin looked at the DJ and said, “Oh, don’t worry.  I’m a REAL preacher!”  And he delivered a perfect ceremony loud enough for all to hear!  The night consisted of dancing, cake, an EPIC rap by the Maid of Honor, peach cobbler and photo booth fun!
