For our third stop in our In the Shoes of… series, we headed to Naakiti Floral to talk about all things pretty. Randi Garrett shared some great information on ordering, receiving and creating floral, designing boutonnieres, bouquets and centerpieces and caring for individual flowers. We have learned that Randi’s attention to detail, generosity and professionalism are impeccable. Naakiti Floral is a well ran machine thanks to Randi’s leadership and extremely talented and dedicated staff.

Here are a few tips we took away from our day with Naakiti Floral:

  • When you have multiple weddings and events coming out of the studio, checking, double checking and triple checking orders, deliveries and final products are a must. Randi has instilled this in her staff. You can be certain your floral order will be correct with Naakiti Floral.
  • Flowers are delivered on Wednesday of each week. Randi checks for color, count and quality of each flower. If the flower is not to her high expectations, she sends it back. Sometimes resulting in contacting multiple wholesalers to find that perfect lavender color hydrangea for your bouquet.
  • Floral orders must be finalized two weeks before the event to allow time for ordering or in some cases for flowers to open or bloom, like Cherry Blossoms.
  • Randi donates floral left behind after an event to a hospice for someone else to enjoy. We love Randi because of this!
  • Naakiti Floral is full of beautiful structures, chairs, furniture, vases, chandeliers, props and floral. At your next consultation, allow Randi to take you around the warehouse to pick your vase or ceremony arch. It doesn’t get better than seeing exactly what you will get.

Thank you Randi and everyone at Naakiti Floral for taking the time to share your trade with us. We learned that floral design can’t be taught. It’s truly a talent and Randi has it. For more information on Naakiti Floral visit www.naakitifloral.com.

For our second stop in our In the Shoes of… series, we headed to Tuxedo Junction to talk about all things men’s attire.  Mikka and Michelle showed us the ropes when dealing with tuxedos, suits, bow-ties and accessories.  Jodi of J Anne Photography came along to get pictures of our new set of skills.

Highlights for our field trip included the following fun facts:

  • It’s ideal to have at least three months to get fitted and order a tuxedo.  It can be done in less time, but it’s nice to have a cushion and not deal with added stress as the wedding day approaches.
  • When ordering at Tuxedo Junction, you have the luxury of an entire warehouse of shirts, jackets and pants.  You won’t have to order out of a catalogue.
  • Worried about out of town groomsmen?  Just have them get their measurements taken and sent to Tuxedo Junction.  Due to their large inventory, they are able to get your guys dressed in a matter of days (and sometimes hours!) if necessary.
  • The most common challenge guys have when getting dressed in a tuxedo is understanding cuff links and button covers.  Luckily for you, the Scheme girls have it down and will be there to help!
  • You want your toddler, infant or favorite pooch dressed in their finest duds?  Tuxedo Junction has you covered with outfits for all sizes.  Check out their doggie tuxes below.

We are excited to kick off our “In the Shoes of” series with the wonderful ladies of Couture Bride. Dawn and Annette were kind enough to let us shadow them in their salon for the day and teach us the ins and outs of bridal couture retail and care. We also had the husband and wife team from Orange Soda there to document the day. We received a crash course is bustling different kinds of dresses (something we always do for our brides on the wedding day), learned how to care for different types of fabrics and how to get our brides into those tricky lace up and button up wedding gowns. Our bride to be, Tara, even got to try on some wedding dresses for the first time! Here are some more tips we learned at our day in the shoes of Dawn and Annette:

  • It takes four to six months for wedding gowns to be shipped from the designer to the store. Start shopping for your wedding gown eight to ten months in advance to ensure you will have enough time for delivery and alterations.
  • Alterations usually begin two months before the wedding with another appointment one month before the wedding and the last the week before the wedding.
  • If you are a last minute shopper and don’t have that much time to find a dress before your wedding, there are still options. You may have to buy a gently used sample dress and have it altered to fit or expect to pay rush shipping fees from the designer.
  • Know your budget before you go shopping. Different wedding salons have different price ranges. You do not want to fall in love with a dress that is way out of your price range.
  • Be open to trying on various styles. What looks good on the hanger may not always look good on your body type and vise versa.
  • This year’s new trend in couture wedding gowns is BLACK!

We are pretty sure that spending the day at Couture Bride is every girl’s dream! A huge thank you to Dawn and Annette (and Chloe) for your kindness and hospitality. To schedule an appointment with Couture Bride please call 702-647-7778
